Qualification’s & Requirements
What You Need to Teach with Premium Educators
At Premium Educators, safeguarding, professionalism and quality are at the heart of everything we do. To ensure schools receive the very best staff and that teachers feel supported we set out clear requirements for joining our network.
Whether you’re a qualified teacher, overseas-trained educator, or applying for a support staff role, here’s what you need to know.
Qualifications for a Teacher?
Qualifications
To work as a teacher in the UK, you will usually hold a recognised teaching qualification, such as:
-
PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
-
BEd (Bachelor of Education)
-
BA/BSc with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
While most state-maintained schools require QTS, it is not always mandatory in academies, free schools, or independent institutions. This means there are opportunities to begin teaching even if you are still working towards QTS.
At Premium Educators, our experts are on hand to guide you through your options, helping you find the most suitable pathway into teaching.
What we are looking for?
Beyond qualifications, we believe that great teaching is built on personal qualities. At Premium Educators, we look for individuals who demonstrate:
-
Enthusiasm and passion for a career in education
-
Patience and attentiveness in supporting learners
-
Confident communication skills
-
A professional attitude and commitment to high standards
-
Excellent organisational skills
-
Flexibility and reliability in a school environment
Safeguarding & Compliance
Every candidate must pass our rigorous safeguarding process, which includes:
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
- At least two professional references covering conduct and attendance.
- Identity and Right-to-Work checks.
- Fitness to Teach (health checks).
- Disqualification by Association checks (for those working with under-8s).
- Safeguarding Level 1 Training (offered to all staff).
These checks give schools complete confidence — and give you peace of mind as a teacher.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
We don’t just check qualifications — we help you grow. Our CPD and training offer includes:
- Classroom Management
- Safeguarding & First Aid
- Teaching & Learning Strategies
- Presentation & Communication Skills
With Premium Educators, you’ll be supported to continually strengthen your skills.
Support Staff
Support staff are an increasingly vital part of modern schools, with their role highlighted in numerous government policies. Their contribution in classrooms across the UK continues to grow, and we value the difference they make to children’s learning.
If you have experience, or are seeking a role, as a teaching assistant, learning mentor, or other school support role, we would be delighted to discuss how we can help you progress in your career.
Perks of Teaching
Flexibility
Teaching allows you to enjoy a structured working year with regular holidays, enabling a healthy work-life balance. The school timetable also provides consistency, which can be especially valuable for parents and those balancing family commitments. With opportunities to progress into different roles or specialise in certain subjects, teaching offers flexibility in shaping your long-term career path.
Autonomy
In the classroom, teachers have the freedom to inspire, design lessons, and adapt teaching methods to suit their pupils’ needs. This autonomy gives you the chance to bring your creativity and personality into your work, while focusing on what you do best — helping young people to succeed.
Variety
No two days in teaching are ever the same. From working with pupils of different ages and abilities to exploring new approaches in learning, every lesson offers fresh challenges and opportunities. This variety ensures that teaching remains dynamic, stimulating, and fulfilling throughout your career.
Retirement
For many, teaching is more than a career — it’s a lifelong passion. The skills and experience gained remain valuable well into later life. Whether through mentoring, tutoring, or part-time roles, many teachers choose to continue making an impact in education even after retirement, on their own terms.
A career in teaching is not only about imparting knowledge it’s about inspiring futures, shaping lives and enjoying a rewarding journey every step of the way.
What is Required of a Teacher?
Teachers play a vital role in shaping pupils’ learning, wellbeing, and future opportunities. This role requires you to deliver high-quality lessons, maintain a positive learning environment, and ensure that students are supported in achieving their full potential.
When covering short-term absences, a lesson plan will usually be available to guide your teaching. In longer-term roles, you may be expected to create, adapt, and deliver lessons that are aligned with the school’s curriculum. For primary teachers, this also includes marking work completed that day to ensure continuity in pupils’ progress.
Typical Teacher Responsibilities
As a teacher with Premium Educators, your role may include:
-
Planning and delivering lessons that clearly communicate learning outcomes.
-
Supervising and monitoring pupils’ behaviour to create a safe, positive, and focused environment.
-
Answering students’ questions and supporting them in understanding their work.
-
Managing classroom situations effectively, addressing issues in a professional and appropriate way.
-
Marking and assessing work and reporting feedback to the relevant staff or leadership team.
